Six years ago, when Sean McCann,
Brian, and I spent the evening hours of Wednesday and Monday nights
sweating our asses off in the dim basement of 29 Homestead Ave,
I never could have guessed that this band would make the progress
that it has. . .3 7"s, 3LP's, 2 European tours, thousands
of logged US miles, long weekend Mini Tours with tons of wonderful
friends, restless hearts, positive souls, and amazing musicians
that we have encountered along the way.
But all good things are affected by fate the same way that bad
things are, which I suppose is what keeps balance - the bad feelings
fade, but while theyre around they make us strive to create better
ones, and the better ones we create end causing us to strive for
better situations than those that preceded them.
In an airy way, I guess Im trying to just say we're finished.
The towel has been thrown in, and the kids are not alright. The
decision to end the musical journey that has been The Cable Car
Theory has been made final and official.
We are going to do a last show in September, and there will be
a final recording. Granted that the final recording is going to
be 2 cover songs, but a good way to end is going to be to record
songs of 2 bands that helped influence our sound - Rites of Spring
and Soulside. Full circle, I guess. . .
In any event, the decision was very hard for all of us. For six
years, Brian and I have been sweating through the rough patches
in both our bands existance and our personal friendship. We've
been through the thick and the thin and come out damn near hating
each other, but as tight as 2 friends can be. Thats been this
bands best gift to me - the friendships Ive earned with Brian,
Sean McCann, Derik Moore, and Nicholas Carlucci. Probably only
second to this is the repair of my relationship with Joey Cingrana;
and how tight Ive remained with Todd Currier, being the ever silent
but constant 5th member of the band. In any case the relationships
I have had with the people I've played music with in this unit
over the last six years has been the greatest medicine and the
most obvious proof of the magic in music.
There are many, many people who deserve a big thank you for the
shit they have endured with us over the last 6 years, but Im going
to keep that mushy stuff right now limited to just a few people
- 4 groups really.
- The first is Imm Sun. Sean and Pat - thank you for seeing us
through to the natural conlusion. Yous guys have hearts bigger
than my belly, and you're owed a debt greater than the monitary
value we actually owe you.
- The second is the Deutche Nakama. Realign, Come What May, Rockemotions
Records, Phillip, and Defiance Records. Thank you for making me
realize that Im not alone.
- Everyone at Ron and Daves Tattoo and CD Skate Shop. You've all
sacrificed for us to see this thing go as far as it can go. We'll
never be able to thank you enough.
- The Parsons family. Its been six years and every day my heart
still breaks. Emil, you told Brian and me something very special
about the night we did the benefit show, about how we had someone
looking out for us now. I hope and pray that she always will.
There will be more music from our little sect. We're not done
stirring the pot, pissing people off, debating the backass motion
of the world, spitting in the face of convention, or singing our
woes away. Despite the fact that the band is ending, the Cable
Car Theory is going out with neither a bang nor a whimper - we're
going out the way we did everything else - and the way Brian and
I decided we were ALWAYS going to do things.
WE'RE GOING OUT ON OUR TERMS.
On behalf of Derik Moore, Sean McCann, Joey Cingrana, Nicholas
Carlucci, Brian Galvin and myself - we thank you for 6 years of
passion and fury, of malice and miscontent, of music and good
times; of people, places, and things beyond compare, and above
all else - for the ability to be a part of something bigger than
the sum of its parts.
See you at the barbecue,
- John Farag
"We are leaving now" - Fine Day
"Maybe what Im looking for is inside of me" - Dag Nasty
